COMPETITION FOR THE RESEARCH AND LEARNING BUILDING OF POMERANIAN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY IN SZCZECIN

The void after the unfinished stadium is a unique form of the Pobrzeże Szczecińskie’s landscape. Thus, it became the starting point – datum – from which placement and relations of campus’ elements would arise and merge into the composition of the project. The array of solids generates courtyards, passages, and variously accessible roofs feeding off the challenge put forward by the prominent height differences on the site. It embraces the specific verticality being a fundamentally multi-level project both in its organization and the way it is perceived. This character is clearly noticeable in the main square situated on the bottom of the ‘stadium’, which can be observed from the height of surrounding stands. The mathematically rigorous logic of academic and clinical functions is powerfully juxtaposed with human-scale common spaces, both internal and external. All governed by enclosing the project in the mold of the absent stadium.
