INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE

COMPETITION FOR AN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE IN ŻELAZOWA WOLA

location: Żelazowa Wola

usable area: 9 360 m²

project: 2018

in collaboration with Vaillo Irigaray y Asociados S.L.P

The subject of the competition is the concept of the International Music Center in Żelazowa Wola. It includes a concert hall with about 650 seats with a platform for a 100-person orchestra with technical facilities, music training rooms, a chamber room, a conference room, a recording studio, and educational rooms. The building's program was organized around the main foyer, which connects all its areas located on different floors, where the main routes of horizontal and vertical communication meet. The building is a sum of smaller blocks, covered with sloping roofs and topped with a small tower. It refers to historical complexes of rural buildings, thus evoking the roots of Chopin's family home. The facade was designed from two layers. Large surfaces of white, opalescent glass on a thin, metal structure form an outer shell, which provides illumination of the interior with natural, diffused light. The inner shell consists of white, wooden panels and insulation made of transparent, white-colored glass fiber, which puts the emphasis on the effect of light scattering in the interior.
